Humidity-Based Control for MVHR and Mirror Heating

The Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) system and mirror heating are automatically controlled based on real-time humidity levels, ensuring optimal indoor air quality and preventing condensation on mirrors

Night Scene Light Reduction

To promote restful sleep, any light turned on after a preset night time will automatically be dimmed. If more light is required, the user can easily override the night mode with a simple push of a button, providing flexibility and convenience. Additionally, the push button LED illumination is adjusted in night mode to a softer light, minimizing disturbance while maintaining visibility

Energy Price Monitoring and Load Shedding

The system continuously monitors electrical energy prices from the NordPool Power Exchange, factoring in the electricity provider's markup. It delivers real-time energy consumption data and pricing information to the homeowners. By dynamically adjusting the operation of energy-intensive units based on current prices, this load shedding strategy optimizes energy use and minimizes costs during peak pricing periods

Intuitive Climate Control

Climate control is based on three preset temperature values, ensuring a pleasant ambient environment. The system adjusts settings automatically in response to changes in temperature, humidity, or CO2 levels, providing an intuitive and comfortable climate

Customizable Lighting Scenes

Four distinct lighting scenes can be activated with a single pushbutton. The scenes—Welcome, Cozy, Custom (depending on use-case), and Cleaning—are easily selectable and indicated by an LED light on the button, offering tailored lighting environments for different activities and moods

In this project, we utilized a combination of KNX, DALI, and Modbus protocols to ensure a seamless integration of various smart devices and systems. The house automation and control interface is vendor-neutral, making it compatible with Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Home Assistant, Samsung SmartThings, or any other Matter-based smart home system. This flexibility allows the homeowners to choose their preferred platform for controlling and monitoring their smart home environment.

Centralized HVAC and MVHR Systems

The home features centralized air conditioning with multi-zoning capabilities, allowing individuals to control the AC in different rooms separately, ensuring personalized comfort throughout the house. The integrated Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) units maintain indoor air quality while recovering heat from exhaust air, reducing overall energy consumption. These systems are fully automated and integrated with KNX to ensure precise and responsive adjustments.

The lighting system, based on the DALI protocol, offers customizable and energy-efficient lighting solutions.

The sauna unit is integrated into the smart home system, allowing for remote control of sauna unit, ensuring the perfect sauna experience every time.

Underfloor heating mats and floor heating systems are automated to provide consistent and comfortable warmth. These heating mats are also used in walls, behind mirrors, and behind tiles to prevent condensation and provide additional heating. They operate independently but can be scheduled and adjusted through the smart home interface, ensuring optimal energy efficiency and comfort.

Access Control Systems

Advanced access control systems provide secure and convenient entry to the property. Features include the control of car and entrance gate locks, intercom system that can be managed remotely, enhancing both security and ease of access.

Sauna Unit

The garage doors are equipped with smart control features, allowing for remote access and monitoring. Integration with the home automation system ensures security and convenience.

Curtains

Alarm System

Automated curtains are integrated into the system, allowing for scheduled opening and closing, as well as remote control to enhance privacy and energy efficiency.

The alarm system seamlessly integrates with the smart home network, utilizing existing presence sensors and window and door contact sensors. This approach provides real-time alerts and remote monitoring, ensuring the home's safety and security while eliminating the need for the unsightly, bulky sensors typically associated with standard alarm systems.

Humidifier

Humidifier, integrated via Modbus, maintains optimal indoor humidity levels by automatically activating when humidity reaches set thresholds, contributing to a comfortable and healthy living environment.

Outdoor and Facade Lighting

Outdoor and facade lighting are integrated into the system, offering automated control for enhanced security and aesthetic appeal. Lighting schedules and scenes can be customized to highlight architectural features and provide safe pathways.

One of the standout features of this smart home is the elimination of external vendor-provided controllers and user-interface devices. All systems, including AC, ventilation, lighting, and more, are unified and integrated into a single control interface.
